Slow Burn Portrait of Seduction PORTRAIT OF SEDUCTION - Madison Chase Cobblestone Press – www.cobblestone-press.com ISBN: 978-1-60088-062-9 November 2006 Erotic Paranormal Romance - Short Story Rating: Wanton New York- Present Day Victoria can’t take her eyes off of him. Although his face is hidden behind a mask, his eyes captivate her. She hates to walk away from his gaze, but she promised her friend that she would participate in the bachelorette auction. As she walks to the stage, Viki is unsure of what to expect. She knows that this is for a worthy cause; all the proceeds from the Masquerade Ball’s auction will go to charity. This knowledge however, doesn’t stop the nervous flutters she experiences when she takes the stage. She just hopes that someone…anyone…will place a bid for a date with her. Viki is surprised and relieved when a mysterious, unseen bidder offers one million dollars for her. Still not believing that she could command that type of money, she walks off of the stage in a daze. Unfortunately, she can’t find the Adonis she saw before the auction began, though she hopes to see him again soon. Viki gets her wish when she later arrives at the artist’s house who has been commissioned to paint her portrait. When he opens the door, she recognizes him instantly. Carter is shocked when he finds that Viki is to be the subject of his next painting. Not only was he attracted to her at the Ball, but he knows that he has finally found his true mate. The only problem is that his mate is a wealthy human socialite. How will she react when she finds out that he is a vampire? PORTRAIT OF SEDUCTION is a fast paced attention grabber that begins with a bang. The first scenes are so emotionally captivating; I couldn’t wait to read the rest. Before I knew it, I was clicking through the final pages. Viki is a strong heroine who has a big heart to accompany her great looks and trust fund. Pain has shaped her into the person that she is today. Carter is a man of mystery who gradually shows us who he truly is. He is a compassionate and considerate lover who just so happens to be a vampire. PORTRAIT OF SEDUCTION is not an erotic story as the few sex scenes included are not explicitly detailed. Instead, the light seems to go out when the love making starts…and then we transition to the next scene. This one is simply a mislabeled paranormal romance that I highly recommend if you are looking for a break from erotica. The other characters in PORTRAIT OF SEDUCTION were as intriguing as Viki and Carter. This book is full of shape shifters, werewolves, witches and ghosts. I just wish it were a little longer and provided more insight into the lives of the other characters. I was a little disappointed when the story ended because I wanted to read more…but that just exemplifies the talent of a great author.

Anthonette Dotson Romance Reviews Today "an interesting tale that shouldn't be missed" Vicki Aragon's grandfather used to tell her stories about other beings that walked among them, werewolf, vampires, daywalkers, and ghosts, but she had thought they were Halloween stories to entertain her. The real monsters are the ones that try to pass themselves off as human. Her brother-in-law is one such person. She is convinced that he murdered her sister, but there is no proof. Her grandmother another, who has never been kind, but manipulative with motives that aren't even clear to Vicki. She wants out of the life, but must bide her time. Carter Vaggio is not human and condemned by his own kind. He is destined to live with heartache forever, but then he meets Vicki at the Masquerade Ball. He doesn't understand the allure, the longing since she is nothing but a spoiled socialite, or so he thinks. He knows she wants him too, but will she be able to accept what he is? As Halloween nears, the time where other beings can communicate with humans, clues are revealed to Vicki concerning her sister's death. She must decide whom she can trust for her life may depend on it. Portrait of Seduction is an interesting tale that shouldn't be missed. My only regret is that it leaves you wanting so much more. Carter Vaggio could have a novel all to his own. She only hints about her secondary characters' past: a werewolf, who is the executioner for the Alliance of Others, a witch that is living in Manhattan , and the interesting grandfather with his hidden books. This story has all the ingredients for a full-length novel, but then maybe Ms. Chase is planning on a sequel to let us in on the chapters of the other character's lives. I look forward to seeing more of Ms. Chase's work. Reviewed by Karen Michelle Nutt As a child Victoria “Viki” Aragon hadn’t paid an awful lot of attention to her grandfather’s myths of ghosts, witches, werewolves, and shape shifters but she was about to discover they were all alive and well and living next door! When Viki went for her first portrait sitting with the hottest new artist around, Carter Vaggio, she was amazed to discover that he was the same man whom the night before at a Masquerade Charity ball, couldn’t keep his eyes off her – but today he acted like he didn’t know her. He was unlike any man she’d ever known before, but that was about to change and if he didn’t attempt to seduce her pretty soon, she was going to take matters into her own hands. What Viki didn’t know was that life as she knew it would never be the same again. This was a very quick and short read. In it the author managed to pack a whole lot of novelty and action and if I were allowed one complaint it is that this was so good I really didn’t want to see it end! This author sparked my imagination with some tremendously likeable portrayals of secondary characters that in my mind are just begging to be brought back into stories of their own. Throwing in some surprising plot twists only added to the excitement and originality of this dynamite short story. Bottom line is I’d really like to see more stories spun off of this one!
